OK, so here's the situation...
You are two days away from running a photo arts workshop for a group of photographers, having hired an internationally brilliant model, to take place on one of the most gorgeous beaches in this part of the planet...
The theme is the art of the outdoor nude, and everything is pretty much in place - location, ideas, attendants, even a local place to stay, and then, some 36 hours before actually heading out, you splutter over your corn flakes as you glance at the weather forecast, which has changed entirely since last night.
Now, instead of the threat of a slight afternoon shower, you are facing a full day of heavy rain, which isn't going to provide any kind of window for what you had planned -
what on earth do you do?
Well, that's the situation I faced at the start of this week, which was also accompanied by a major family crisis. My mind was filled of images of a group of very disappointed, very wet attendants.
Thankfully, I didn't dwell there. On a bank holiday (not the best time to organize something), I started working to find an indoor venue we could all reach and use to do something with the day.
It was touch and go, leaving stacks of messages, not hearing back from anyone, causing me to go in for some serious mental pacing as I hoped that I could do this, literally, so late in the day.
Providence intervened, and by the time my model arrived for the event in the morning, a brand new seminar was on the drawing board (having spent the afternoon frantically consulting my sources to prepare to teach indoors!).
Whilst the rain pelted the streets outside, the workshop proceeded...

It all proved to be a real learning curve, and not just for those attending. I learned so much about what can be done within such constraints, and it certainly added some unexpected punch to the whole event.
So my advice is, don't panic in such moments. Pause, consider all the options, and you could find a real pearl amidst the turmoil....
